Project Engineer - Netherlands

 

Position OverviewWe are looking for a motivated and hands-on Project Engineer to join our Central Europe team. This role will focus on managing and supporting the execution of warehouse engineering, within our temperature-controlled facilities. The ideal candidate has a strong background in refrigeration, warehouse logistics, material handling equipment, racking systems, facility construction, or operational process improvements and is eager to take ownership of projects from planning through execution.

 

Note: Fluency in Dutch is required for this role.

 

Key Responsibilities

Project Execution & Coordination (40%)

• Oversee day-to-day project activities, ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met.
• Take care of providing workorders, work permits such as hot work, in coordination with the local QESH department.
• Coordinate with internal teams, vendors, and contractors to ensure smooth project implementation.
• Identify and address project risks, escalating issues when necessary.
• Ensures commissioning; of racking systems, conveyors, and other warehouse infrastructure and that project documentation is up-to-date before final handover to the maintenance department can take place.

 

Project Planning & Preparation (30%)

• Assist in defining project scope, objectives, and deliverables.
• Develop project schedules, budgets, and resource plans.
• Conduct site visits and assessments to gather requirements and identify potential constraints.
• Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and operational standards during planning.
• Evaluate warehouse layouts and recommend optimization solutions.

 

Stakeholder & Resource Management (20%)

• Collaborate with cross-functional project teams, including site teams, maintenance, IT, QESH, and operations, to align project objectives with business needs.
• Communicate regularly with stakeholders on project progress, challenges, and adjustments.
• Manage relationships with external vendors, engineers, and contractors.

 

Process Improvement & Compliance (10%)

• Identify opportunities to improve warehouse infrastructure, storage efficiency, and operational workflow.
• Ensure all projects adhere to Americold’s safety and quality standards.
• Participate in post-project reviews to capture lessons learned and best practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in mechanical engineering or a similar technical field.
• Around 3+ years of experience in refrigeration, warehouse engineering, racking installations, logistics facility construction, or material handling solutions.
• Hands-on experience managing technical or facility-related projects.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Proficiency in project management tools such as MS Project, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Knowledge of safety, compliance, and regulatory requirements in an industrial environment.
• Willingness to travel across the Netherlands to manage projects on site
• Self-motivated, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced operational setting.
