This position is responsible for maintaining and repairing locomotives to ensure reliable, safe operations. You’ll work hands-on to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical systems—and we’ll supply the tools.

Pay: $45.00–$50.00 CAD/hour

Schedule: Flexible schedule 4 x10hrs per week. Days of week, start of shift time can be mutually agreed upon.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled and emergency maintenance on company locomotives to minimize downtime and support operational goals.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues promptly and accurately.
  • Maintain up-to-date records, including maintenance sheets, invoices, shipping documents, and expense reports.
  • Follow environmental protocols for disposing of materials such as oil and diesel fuel.
  • Adhere to all company safety guidelines and consistently wear required PPE.
  • Conduct regular safety assessments on equipment and suggest improvements to enhance safety standards.
  • Implement approved safety measures and assist in reducing potential hazards.
  • Flexibility to take on additional responsibilities as assigned.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven mechanical aptitude—training available for the right candidate
  • Associate’s degree or technical diploma preferred (or equivalent experience)
  • Electrical experience is a plus
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Ability to safely use a cutting torch and electrical welder

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong understanding of technical instructions, with ability to communicate effectively in one-on-one and small group settings.
  • Competence in basic math operations, including calculating ratios and interpreting bar graphs.
  • Common-sense approach to solving practical problems, with ability to follow detailed yet straightforward instructions.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent standing, walking, and reaching with hands and arms; occasional climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
  • Occasionally required to lift and move heavy items; specific vision abilities are required, including depth perception and color vision.

Environment

  • Outdoor work in varied weather, with exposure to moving mechanical parts, elevated areas, and moderate noise.
  • May require night, holiday, and weekend shifts as needed to support operations.
