A non-profit legal aid society, operates Stand Informed legal advice for people who experience sexual assault and is relaunching our SHARP Workplaces legal clinic for people who experience sexual harassment at work in BC. CLAS is recruiting province-wide to add to our roster of lawyers to assist us in providing these services.
About The Role
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Lawyer to join our Human Resources department. This is a full-time, salaried position that requires a strong foundation in corporate law, excellent communication skills, and proficiency in legal writing. The successful candidate will play a critical role in providing legal advice, managing compliance, and drafting key documents to ensure the company operates within the bounds of the law.
What You'll Do
- Provide legal counsel to the Human Resources department and other relevant stakeholders.
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, policies, and other legal documents.
- Ensure compliance with labor laws, corporate regulations, and other legal requirements.
- Conduct risk assessments and provide strategies to mitigate potential legal issues.
- Handle disputes, grievances, and legal proceedings independently or in collaboration with external counsel.
- Stay updated on new laws and industry regulations that may impact the organization.
- Work cross-departmentally to ensure a consistent legal approach across all corporate activities.
- Provide training and guidance on legal matters to the HR team and other relevant departments.
Qualifications
- A Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree from an accredited institution.
- Licensed to practice law and in good standing with the relevant bar association.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience specializing in corporate law or a related field.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills, both written and verbal, in English.
- Exceptional legal research and analytical abilities.
- Prior experience working in a corporate or Human Resources environment is a plus.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
