Job description



 

Under the general direction of the Operations Manager or their designate, the Lab Technician is responsible for the laboratory aspects of day-to-day operations at a water treatment and used oil processing facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and clean glassware required for sample analysis.
  • Perform daily water treatment analysis and reports (COD, BOD, Chloride, TKN, PH, Phosphate, Suspended Solids, Sulfate etc.)
  • Perform analysis on oil process (BS&W, metals, etc).
  • Perform routine calibration, sample preparation, and analyses using AA, GC, and other instrumentation.
  • Troubleshoot issues with laboratory instrumentation.
  • Report analytical results and coordinate effectively with operations personnel.
  • Maintain accurate records for analysis, maintenance, and production.
  • Complete documentation for provincial and federal regulations governing incoming waste.
  • Monitor laboratory supplies and coordinate re-supply requests with purchasing personnel.
  • Troubleshoot problems and assist with special research, projects or additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Key Competencies

  • Education: Environmental or Chemical Engineering Technician/Technologist diploma, Chemistry degree, or related field.
  • Experience: Previous laboratory experience is considered an asset.
  • Technical Skills: Competent computer skills.
  • Soft Skills: Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Work Style: Motivated, detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and able to work in a team with minimal supervision.
