What is the opportunity?

Corporate Client Group – Loan Syndications plays a key role in the realization of Corporate Client Group (CCG) objectives through the marketing, structuring, delivery and management of multi-bank debt solutions for a targeted customer base. The CCG team targets loan origination in the Canadian mid-market, including large Canadian subsidiaries of foreign multinationals, financial sponsor-owned businesses, private and small to medium cap public Canadian companies.

As the Director, Loan Syndications, you provide structuring, marketing, and loan distribution expertise for financing requirements of CCG borrowers including Mid-Market Leverage and Infrastructure Finance (MMLIF) across Canada. You will take on primary responsibility for the distribution of a portfolio of accounts, as well as provide support to Senior Directors in originating new Lead Arranger/Agency opportunities. You will deliver best in class client experience and grow the RBC Agency portfolio, while adhering to regulatory requirements and risk management practices.

What will you do?

  • Evaluate and structure bank financing arrangements to meet CCG client objectives. Liaise with deal teams across the country, Agency Services, Group Risk Management and RBC Capital Markets Syndications to ensure loan commitments are distributed in line with targets.

  • Contribute to business development efforts and play a critical role in maintaining client and  stakeholder relationships as part of broader deal teams on some of CCG’s largest relationships.

  • Project manage specific transactions with respect to ensuring effective and timely delivery of credit solutions.

  • Research and prepare comparable transaction data (industry, client, and competitor) to support CCG advice on the optimal amount structure and pricing required to clear market and/or successfully distribute transaction.

  • Conduct market soundings and work with clients to determine appropriate syndication/distribution strategy

  • Prepare Confidential Information Memorandums, pitch books, client presentations, transaction teasers/marketing materials, term sheets, agent communications and invite packages

  • Independently review and negotiate legal documentation with outside counsel, clients and participant banks

  • Be a key source of market intelligence in relation to Canadian syndicated loans in the mid-market space, and be tasked with building and maintaining relationships with other financial institutions

What do you need to succeed?

Must have:

  • 5 years of experience in corporate/commercial lending including loan syndications, leverage finance, or similar roles

  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Economics, Accounting, or Finance

  • Strategic thinker with knowledge of capital markets, commercial/senior lending, and credit structuring

  • Professional oral and written communication skills with a particular emphasis on delivering compelling presentations, public speaking and on influencing internal/external partners

  • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple tasks while meeting time sensitive deadlines

  • Advanced Excel, Word, PowerPoint skills and the ability to source market data/perform research

  • Collaborative team-oriented mindset with proficiency in coordinating large groups of colleagues, participants and clients

  • Demonstrated negotiation skills and tact in having difficult conversations

  • High level of attention to detail in both written and financial work

Nice to have:

  • MBA (or Masters equivalent), CPA or CFA
