About Cole, Murray and Robinson

About The Role

As a Data Scientist Intern in the Human Resources department, you will contribute to building a more data-driven people organization. Working closely with HR Business Partners, Talent Acquisition, and People Analytics leaders, you will help design and execute analytical projects that improve hiring, retention, performance management, and employee engagement. This internship is an opportunity to apply your statistical, analytical, and programming skills to real-world HR challenges, while gaining exposure to workforce analytics, people metrics, and HR technology tools. You will support the end-to-end analytics lifecycle—from data collection and cleaning to modeling, visualization, and communicating insights to non-technical stakeholders.

What You'll Do

  • Support HR and People Analytics teams in analyzing workforce data related to recruitment, retention, engagement, and performance.
  • Clean, transform, and validate HR data from multiple sources (HRIS, ATS, survey platforms, LMS, and other people systems) to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Build descriptive and diagnostic analyses (e.g., trends, segmentation, correlations) to help identify patterns and drivers of key HR outcomes.
  • Assist in the development of predictive models and statistical analyses to forecast hiring needs, attrition risk, and other HR-related metrics under guidance from senior team members.
  • Create clear visualizations and dashboards using tools such as Excel, Tableau, Power BI, or similar platforms to communicate findings to HR stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with HR Business Partners to translate business questions into analytical hypotheses and measurable metrics.
  • Contribute to the design and analysis of employee surveys, including engagement, onboarding, and exit surveys.
  • Document data sources, definitions, methodologies, and analytical approaches to support reproducibility and knowledge sharing.
  • Participate in regular project meetings, present interim findings, and incorporate feedback from mentors and cross-functional partners.
  • Stay current on best practices in people analytics, data science, and HR technology, and propose ideas to improve existing processes and reporting.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, Industrial/Organizational Psychology with a quantitative focus, or a related field.
  • Foundational knowledge of statistics and probability, including hypothesis testing, regression, and basic exploratory data analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with at least one programming language commonly used in data analysis (such as Python or R).
  • Ability to work with structured data using tools such as SQL, spreadsheets, or data frames in Python/R.
  • Familiarity with data visualization principles and experience using tools like Tableau, Power BI, matplotlib, seaborn, or similar libraries.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and data quality.
  • Ability to translate analytical results into clear, concise insights for non-technical audiences, both in writing and presentations.
  • Interest in Human Resources, organizational behavior, or people analytics and motivation to apply data science methods to HR challenges.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks, priorities, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfort working with sensitive and confidential employee data and a strong commitment to ethics, discretion, and data privacy.
  • Good communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, cross-functional environment.
  • Eligibility to work in the country where the internship is offered for the full duration of the program.
