Your opportunity:
Reporting to the Associate Director of the Quantum Advantage Toronto, the Communications & Event Officer will be responsible for the design and development of communications materials, marketing, and outreach event efforts of the initiative to increase the profile and reputation of this initiative, nationally and internationally.
This is a part-time (75% FTE) opportunity with term ending in October 2028.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Implementing communication plans that support outreach goals and objectives
- Implementing marketing and advertising plans
- Advising on marketing and advertising strategies for multimedia channels
- Building and strengthening relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategic importance
- Creating and maintaining presence on social media platforms
- Researching and recommending story ideas that advance priorities and initiatives
- Advising others on website design and content
- Coordinating website updates and ensuring technical issues are resolved
- Producing promotional and outreach materials
- Conceptualizing, organizing and executing event activities
- Determining logistical details and activities for events and/or programming
- Liaising with staff and vendors to ensure logistics are carried out according to the event plan
- Conducting post-event evaluation and analysis
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field such as marketing, communications, journalism, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum four years of recent and relevant experience in implementing communications programs, website activities and social media programs for research advancement.
- Experience in planning, implementing and outreach programs for research advancement.
- Demonstrated experience with communications project implementation and coordination through to execution and results.
- Experience with interviewing, researching and writing articles (feature and news), annual reports, letters, and promotional and public relations material (websites, brochures, posters, advertisements, newsletters, etc.).
- Demonstrated experience with WordPress and Drupal or other current content management software (CMS).
- Experience managing and writing content for websites and newsletters.
- Experience with developing and managing digital marketing.
- Experience working with technical consultants and graphic designers to create effective and engaging materials.
- Strong skills with programming in HTML and content management systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to deal with a variety of responsibilities, with interruptions.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
- Project implementation skills and knowledge about the principles of good design and how to assess audience bneeds
- Proven journalistic skills, including investigating and pitching stories, executing interviews, and writing news and feature stories.
- Exceptional proofreading and editing skills with working knowledge of graphic design principles for web and print communication
Assets (Nonessential):
- Experience with programming in CSS, and PHP
- Experience working with science-research environment is a strong asset.
- Experience with web programming languages such as Markdown, CSS, JavaScript
- Experience editing, retouching and optimizing images for web and print publishing
- Experience editing HD and UHD videos (ability to create simple animations for intros/outros and adding these tothe video, editing/adding soundtracks, reducing noise, cropping/combining video clips).
- Post-secondary education in Chemistry, Physics or Engineering is an asset
